This is to be found on many inscriptions made by the Church during the dark Middle Ages. This fact is also well documented and is generally admitted by scholarly sources and ordinary English dictionaries.191 These dictionaries bear witness to the fact if IHS (Ies) being an abbreviated form of IHSOUS (Iesous).
